St Frideswide is the Patron of the City and University of Oxford.

St Frideswide, a Saxon princess, became the first Abbess of a monastery in Oxford built for her by her father. But, mostly she retired to a hermit's cell where she lived a life of sever penance. She was called from hence to her heavenly Bridegroom in the eighth century.
